Deep Water Sonic Productions
In addition to words we're also keen on sounds, so since Summer 2005 we've been periodically releasing into the wild some limited CD-R editions under the Deep Water Sonic Productions banner (taking over the DIY object production that used to be the province of the Deep Water magazine, before this here Web thing took over publishing...).
Unless noted otherwise, all Deep Water CD-Rs are available for $10 (doubles $13) ppd to anywhere. You can order right here, if you use paypal (we may add other payment services if demand is high). Payment may also be met via check (made out to Kevin Moist), well-concealed cash, or barter (we love the barter system, but please get in touch before mailing us a chicken or something), sent to the usual Deep Water Acres address .
Just to be safe, it's probably a good idea to get in touch first and let us know what you'd like to order before sending payment by any method. Happy listening!

Unless otherwise noted, all releases are CD-Rs in a heavy clear vinyl jacket and full-color front/back cardstock cover (double CD-R's are housed in clear vinyl clam-shell packaging).
Century Plants / The Qoast (Split CD)

Our latest shared release continues the transatlantic theme, featuring a pair of duos who follow different but complementary routes to lost lands of avant-psych-drone overload. Century Plants is a two-headed guitar monster from upstate New York, both also serving in the larger Burnt Hills collectivity; gtrs plugged directly into hi-tension wires mainline pure raw overbleed, calling to mind the finest Japanese and New Zealand noise masters w/o sounding like anyone but themselves. French twosome the Qoast have a number of releases under their belts under the name Ghost Brames; here they kick things up a good few notches, doubling up each on swirling gtrs & bash-tastic drums for a Gallic free-psych whirlwind epic that manages to be simultaneously atomically heavy and woozily levitational. Three tracks total, 50 minutes. |
Agitated Radio Pilot - The Rural Arcane

On the heels of the Deep Water reissue of Airs of Sun and Stone, we're honored to continue our association with the United Bible Studies family via this all-new double-CD from UBS singer David Colohan in his Agitated Radio Pilot solo guise. The previous ARP release, World Winding Down (on Deadslackstring), leaned more toward Dave's songwriterly side; by contrast, the music of The Rural Arcane follows its title thematically into melancholy fog-shrouded dusks and dawns, tapping into the stillness at the heart of nature's mystery via lush and expansive drones, chants, songs, and invocations. Two CDs, thirteen tracks, ninety-one minutes, every one of them gorgeous and timeless. |
United Bible Studies - Airs of Sun and Stone

We're huge fans of the Irish collective known as United Bible Studies , so it's a great pleasure to be able to bring back one of the best of their earlier limited releases. Originally out on the group's own Deserted Village label in 2005 and OOP since around then, Airs of Sun and Stone documents a complete live set recorded at a Limerick arts festival in an old church on a Sunday morning. One extended improvisational piece (nearly 40 minutes) by a special quartet version of the group (plus dance troupe), featuring harp, guitars, piano, and percussion, it's a perfect avant-folk morning raga. This edition features a complete sonic remaster and lovely new cover art. |
indoorpark - The Neutral Mile

indoorpark is the Detroit-based duo of Nick Schillace and
Jon Moshier, and we're thrilled to have their debut release on Deep Water.
Schillace is better known among wise ears as one of the finest post-Fahey
acoustic guitarists on the scene today (with several CDs and lots of touring to
prove it), and while his deft stringwork is well on display here, this is
anything but a folk album. Instead, The
Neutral Mile serves up seven tracks (42 minutes) of rich vintage-future
soundscapery, nimble hollowbody fingerpicking combining with crisp, driving
drumming and occasional samples/electronics in an extremely cinematic fashion.
You could strain your brain trying to come up with some new hyphenated hybrid
description (neo-post-art-folk-rock… ack) or you could just settle back and let
the music take your mind on a tomorrowland trip. We recommend the latter. CD-R in offset printed digipack. |
Pefkin - Sunblinded Visions by a Silver Sea / The Circle and the Point - say goodnight to the evangelist

Our second split CD features 45 minutes of complementary drone bliss by two prime proponents of contemporary underground drift. Glasgow's Pefkin (Gayle Brogan of the Boa Melody Bar mailorder) offers up one extended track in which discrete, often acoustic sounds glisten and overlap like light on a rolling ocean; while the Circle and the Point (a duo of Buffalo-based Adam Richards [House of Alchemy records] and LA denizen Grant Capes [of (VxPxC) and the Phantom Limb label]) bring us four tracks that drag simple Eno-esque melodies through an unpredictable filter of urban noise. Sea air to city clatter, electronically bridged; plug in anywhere. |
