After the goldrush #49
After the goldrush #49
When describing Steven R. Smith’s first disc under the Ulaan Khol moniker I wrote that it sounded “like an unholy mix of Fushitsusha, Smith’s solo work and Roy Montgomery at his most abrasive. Candles flicker in the night to help us remember the ones on the other side. Memories slowly fade away but just like the sun they'll keep coming back”. That’s still very much the case on 2 (Soft Abuse) and in this case more of the same is actually a great thing. If you’re a fan of any of the above or Ash Ra Tempel and Agitation Free you can’t really go wrong.

review: Stag Hare "Black Medicine Music" (A. Star)
What a bad-ass CD! From the get-go it feels as though I?m being transported into a head-spinning voodoo dance with witch doctors exorcising negative spirits out of my entranced Indian-style seated, immobile body. Pull out the narcotics? Grab the Ouija board? Frolic naked through the forest? The possibilities are endless.
review: GNOD/White Hills "Aquarian Downer" (GNOD)
Two experiences I?ve enjoyed a great deal of late: a Sloow Tapes release by GNOD called ?The Somnambulist?s Tale? and seeing White Hills play live in Glasgow. This album finds these two forces meeting in a particularly fine sense of harmony.
